The Grapes of Wrath Tour

June 7th, 2008

Since we are running the tour in the northern/east part of the wine area, these instructions are for those brave souls who are willing to take the drive from the start. For those weak of heart - you might be willing to meet in the Plymouth area - a place to be decided upon soon.

We will meet at the McDonalds off of Route 50 at the Cameron Park exit -Exit 35. We will leave at 10:00 am (time subject to change).
Our first stop will be at the Perry Creek Winery - off of Perry Creek Road. They are really wanting to see us and if our numbers are large enough we will have a private tasting.

From there we will lunch at the CrossRoads Cafe. After lunch we will visit the Mt. Aukum winery - the view from here is amazing! From there we visit Chateau Routon, Fitzpatricks (they have not only fine wines but single malt scotch and British/Irish beer! as well as a great view), TooGood, and maybe another depending on the time. The roads are great, but some of the driveways are a bit dusty. All in all a nice drive as well as a fun time.

The route (always subject to change right up to the first car out):
Route 50 to exit 35 (to start). Back on Route 50 east to Exit 44A Missouri Flat Road. Keep right (turn) to Route 49. Turn left on 49.
Next, turn right on Bucks Bar Rd. Turn Right on Mt Aukum. Turn left on Fairplay, then left on Perry Creek to the Perry Creek Winery (estimated time from Route 50 start is 42 minutes.) From there we will go to lunch at the CrossRoads - their menu:

Sandwiches
Hot Pastrami/The Club/Double BLT/Turkey
Melt/Thanksgiving Sandwich/Chicken Waldorf/Veggie Deligt/Turkey Melt/Leanne Sandwich/Meat Loaf Sandwich - they also have a great Chinese Chicken Salad & Gourmet Chicken Salad. Their food is great.

After lunch we'll turn left on Mt Aukum and drive to Mt Aukum winery
- the winery is at the top of the mountain & the view is amazing.
From there left on Mt Aukum, left on Omo Ranch and another left on Fairplay. At Chateau Routon, if we are lucky, we might get to see his horses perform - they are Arabians and do all kinds of tricks.
From there to Fitzgeralds. A piece of the old country - wine, single malts, and great beer (for a change of taste) as well as a great view of the valley. Then TooGood and it's cave and from there, who knows.
If possible let me know if you are coming - just to let the wineries know about how many of us will be there, but if you are not sure come anyway - even the day of.
There will be one more notice (or more) to update where the Plymouth group will meet - Ian will let me know. Plus, there will be one more practice run and sampling - jut to insure all is well.

Come one and all for all are more than welcome, the Wine Tour is always fun.
