For the Rally, Jerry had a lot of trouble finding a helmet big enough. When the the brain pressure was relieved, he went like stink. I on the other hand went down a size which apparently affected my concentration or something.
I have a lot of excuses for why he was faster than me, chiefly my tires.
New ones are on order.
As to winning , they were born and raised in San Diego, so they knew the territory. But they did have a alternator break down while on the rally. They went to Kragen, burned their hands, r & r'd the alternator and still won the rally.
Probably wouldn't have happened at all if they had a Lucas generator.
